Reported by Abu Dawud (3686) and Ahmad (26634), both through the route of Hakam bin Utayba, from Shahr bin Hawshab who said, "I heard Umm Salama," and then he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan on account of the discussion surrounding Shahr bin Hawshab, except for the word "mufattir" ("stupefying"), which is shadh, as he alone transmitted it. Hafiz Ibn Hajar graded it hasan in Fath al-Bari (10/44). The word "mufattir" is an active participle from "aftara," referring to something that, when drunk, heats the body and produces "futur," meaning weakness and languor. On this subject there is also a report from Muawiya, who said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Every intoxicant is forbidden to every believer.'" Reported by Ibn Majah (3389), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (5374), both through the route of Ali bin Maymun Raqqi Attar, who said, "Khalid bin Hayan narrated to us, from Sulayman bin Abdullah bin Zubarqan, from Yaala bin Shaddad bin Aws, who said, 'I heard Muawiya say,'" and then he mentioned it. In this chain is Sulayman bin Abdullah bin Zubarqan, whom only Ibn Hibban judged reliable, while Ibn Hajar said, "His hadith is weak (layyin)." Despite this, Busiri said in Misbah Zujaja (3/106), "This chain is sahih, its men are reliable."On this subject there is also a report from Ayesha, who was asked about drinks, and she said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to forbid every intoxicant." Reported by Nasai (5682) from Ismail bin Masud, who said, "Khalid narrated to us, from Aban bin Sama, who said, 'My mother narrated to me, from Ayesha,'" and she said, and then he mentioned it. In this chain is the mother of Aban bin Sama, who is "acceptable," meaning when her narration is corroborated by others, otherwise her hadith is weak (layyin).
