Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ drank wine in the morning, and were then killed as martyrs on the day of Uhud. The Jews said, "Some of those who were killed died with it still in their stomachs." So Allah the Exalted revealed, "There is no blame upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they have eaten" [Maidah 5:93].
اصطبح ناس الخمر من أصحاب النبي ﷺ ثم قتلوا شهداء يوم أحد، فقالت اليهود: فقد مات بعض الذين قتلوا وهي في بطونهم فأنزل الله تعالى: {ليس على الذين ءامنوا وعملوا الصلحت جناح فيما طعموا}.
Bazzar narrated it, as mentioned in the tafsir of Ibn Kathir (3/186), from Ahmad bin Ubayda, who said, Sufyan told us, from Amr bin Dinar, who heard Jabir, and he mentioned it. Bazzar said afterward, "This is a sahih isnad." Ibn Kathir said, after quoting his grading it sahih, "But there is something strange in its wording." By this he is referring to the addition at the end, namely his statement, "The Jews said... etc." This is because he related it from Bukhari without the addition mentioned, for Bukhari narrated it (2815) from Ali bin Abdullah (that is, Ibn Madini), who said, Sufyan (that is, Ibn Uyayna) told us, with the same chain. An addition from a trustworthy narrator is accepted, as is well known.
