He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say in the year of the Conquest, while he was in Mecca, "Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, dead animals, swine, and idols."
أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول عام الفتح وهو بمكة: إن الله ورسوله حرم بيع الخمر، والميتة، والخنزير، والأصنام.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sales (2236), and Muslim in the Book of Sharecropping (1581), both from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Layth narrated to us, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it at length.As for what has been narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah, that he said, "On the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ poured out the wine, broke its jars, and forbade selling it and selling idols," this is daif.Ahmad narrated it (14656) from Yahya bin Ishaq, who said, Ibn Lahia informed us, from Jafar bin Rabia, from Ata, from Jabir, and he related it. Its chain is daif due to the poor memory of Ibn Lahia, and he alone reported the statement about pouring out the wine and breaking the jars on the day of the conquest. The sahih view is that the pouring out took place in Madinah when the prohibition of wine was revealed, as mentioned previously.
