We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Khaybar, and then Allah granted him victory over its people. On the evening of the day it was conquered, the people lit many fires. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What are these fires? What are you cooking on them?"They replied, "Meat."He asked, "What kind of meat?"They said, "The meat of domestic donkeys."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Pour it out and break the pots."A man asked, "Messenger of Allah, may we instead pour it out and wash the pots?"He replied, "That will do as well."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4196), and Muslim in the Book of Hunting and Slaughtered Animals (1802:33), both through Hatim bin Ismail, from Yazid bin Abu Ubayd, from Salama bin Akwa, who said, and he mentioned it. The wording given is Muslim's, while Bukhari's version has a longer wording.
