On the day of Khaybar, a man came and said, "Messenger of Allah, the donkeys have been eaten."Then another came and said, "Messenger of Allah, the donkeys have been finished off."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered Abu Talha, who announced, "Allah and His Messenger forbid you from the flesh of donkeys, for it is filth," or he said, "impure."The narrator said, the pots were then overturned with whatever was in them.
لما كان يوم خيبر جاء فقال: يا رسول الله أكلت الحمر، ثم جاء آخر فقال: يا رسول الله أفنيت الحمر، فأمر رسول الله ﷺ أبا طلحة فنادى: إن الله ورسوله ينهيانكم عن لحوم الحمر؛ فإنها رجس أو نجس، قال: فأكفئت القدور بما فيها.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sacrifices and Hunting (5528), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hunting and Sacrifices (1940: 35), both through Muhammad bin Sirin, from Anas, as he related it. The wording given here is Muslim's.Muslim also narrated it (1940: 34) from the hadith of Anas bin Malik, who said, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Khaybar, we came upon donkeys outside the village, and we cooked some of them, then the caller of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called out..." and so on.
