The Prophet ﷺ said, "A house without dates is like a house without food."
أن النبي ﷺ قال: بيت لا تمر فيه كالبيت لا طعام فيه.
Ibn Majah (3328) narrated it from Abdul-Rahman bin Ibrahim Dimashqi, who said, Ibn Abu Fudayk narrated to us, from Hisham bin Saad, from Ubaydullah bin Abu Rafi, from his grandmother Salma, and he related it. Its chain is hasan, because of Hisham bin Saad Madani, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan as long as it does not contradict others or contain something objectionable. Indeed, the earlier hadith of Ayesha corroborates it, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy. Ibn Abu Fudayk is Muhammad bin Ismail bin Muslim bin Abu Fudayk Madani.Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir (24/299) via the route of Saeed bin Sulayman Wasiti, who said, Ismail bin Zakariya narrated to us, from Haritha bin Muhammad, who said, Ubaydullah bin Abu Rafi informed me, from his mother, who had been a servant of the Prophet ﷺ, who said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "A house whose people go hungry with dates in it." He related it in this way with the wording of Ayesha's hadith, but said "from his mother" instead of "from his grandmother." Thus he made the hadith part of the narrations of the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rather than of Salma, but the first version is more sahih.
