Shaybi said to me, "What do you make of the hadith of Hasan from the Prophet ﷺ? I sat with Ibn Umar for nearly two years, or a year and a half, and I did not hear him narrate from the Prophet ﷺ anything other than this."He said, "Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, among them Saad, went to eat some meat when a woman, one of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, called out to them, 'It is the meat of a lizard.' So they held back. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Eat it, or feed others with it, for it is lawful,' or he said, 'There is no harm in it,' the narrator was uncertain, 'but it is not among the foods I eat.'"
قال لي الشعبي: أرأيت حديث الحسن، عن النبي ﷺ وقاعدت ابن عمر قريبا من سنتين أو سنة ونصف، فلم أسمعه يحدث عن النبي ﷺ غير هذا، قال: كان ناس من أصحاب النبي ﷺ فيهم، سعد، فذهبوا يأكلون من لحم فنادتهم امرأة من بعض أزواج النبي ﷺ: إنه لحم ضب، فأمسكوا، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: كلوا أو أطعموا- فإنه حلال- أو قال: لا بأس به، شك فيه- ولكن ليس من طعامي.
Bukhari related it in Akhbar al-Ahad (7267), and Muslim in Hunting and Slaughtered Animals (1944), both through the route of Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shubah narrated to us, from Tubah Anbari, who said, and he mentioned it. The wording is Bukhari's.As for Muslim, he referred it to the narration of Muaz Anbari, from Shubah, with the same wording, except that it does not contain the doubt, and its wording is, "Eat it, for it is lawful, but it is not among my food."
