I hunted two rabbits and slaughtered them with a sharp stone. I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about them, and he instructed me to eat them.
اصدت أرنبين، فذبحتهما بمروة، فسألت رسول الله ﷺ عنهما، فأمرني بأكلهما.
It was narrated by Abu Dawud (2822), Nasai (4313), Ibn Majah (3175), and Ahmad (15870), and Ibn Hibban declared it sahih (5887), as did Hakim (4/235), all of them through various chains from Shaybi, from Muhammad bin Safwan, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criteria of Muslim, though there is disagreement about it regarding Shaybi, and the two of them did not narrate it."On this subject there is also a report from Khalid bin Huwayrith, who said, "Abdullah bin Amr was at Sifah, a place in Makkah, when a man came with a hare he had hunted and said, 'O Abdullah bin Amr, what do you say?' He said, 'It was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I was sitting there, and he did not eat it, nor did he forbid eating it, and he claimed that it menstruates.'" This was narrated by Abu Dawud (3792), and from his route by Bayhaqi (9/321), from Yahya bin Khalaf, who said, Rawh bin Ubada narrated to us, Muhammad bin Khalid narrated to us, who said, I heard my father Khalid bin Huwayrith say, and he mentioned it.In its chain is Muhammad bin Khalid bin Huwayrith Makhzumi, whom no one but Ibn Hibban declared reliable, mentioning him among the trustworthy narrators (7/407) according to his habit of declaring unknown narrators reliable. Hafiz said in Taqrib, "Obscure." Likewise his father, Khalid bin Huwayrith, whom only Ibn Hibban declared reliable. Uthman bin Saeed Darimi said, "I asked Ibn Main about him, and he said, 'I do not know him.'" Ibn Adi said, "This Khalid, as Ibn Main said, is not known, and I do not know him either. Uthman bin Saeed frequently asked Yahya bin Main about certain people, and his answer would be, 'I do not know them.' If Yahya does not know him, then he has no renown and is not known." Kamil (3/40).On this subject there is also a report from Ibn Hawtakiyya, who said, Umar said, "Who was present with us on the day of Qaha?" Abu Dharr said, "I was present when the Prophet ﷺ was brought a hare." And another time he said, "A bedouin came with a hare, and the one who brought it said, 'I saw that it seemed to be bleeding.'" The Prophet ﷺ ate from it and said to them, "Eat." A man said, "I am fasting." He said, "What is your fast?" So the man told him, and he said, "Then why do you not observe the white bright days?" The man asked, "What are they?" He said, "Fasting three days from every month, the thirteenth, the fourteenth, and the fifteenth."This was narrated by Ibn Khuzayma (2127), Abu Yaala (185), and Bayhaqi (9/321), all of them through the hadith of Musa bin Talha, from Ibn Hawtakiyya, and he mentioned it. The wording is that of Ibn Khuzayma. There is disagreement about the name of Ibn Hawtakiyya. It is said that he is Yazid, and this is what Hafiz relied upon. He said, "Most often he is mentioned without being named," then he said, "Acceptable," meaning when corroborated, but I have not come across anyone who corroborated him, so his hadith is weak in transmission.
