The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you shoot your arrow at game and it goes out of your sight, then you find it later, eat it as long as it has not begun to rot."In another narration, concerning someone who finds his game after three days, he said, "Eat it as long as it has not begun to rot."Wazad added in one narration, "And your arrow is still in it."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: إذا رميت بسهمك فغاب عنك فأدركته عنك فأدركته فكله ما لم ينتن. وفي رواية: في الذي يدرك صيده بعد ثلاث: فكله ما لم ينتن. وزاد في رواية: وسهمك فيه.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hunting and Slaughtered Animals (1931:9), from Muhammad bin Mihran Razi, who said, Abu Abdullah Hammad bin Khalid Khayyat narrated to us, from Muawiya bin Salih, from Abdul-Rahman bin Jubayr, from his father, from Abu Thalaba, and he mentioned it.The other narration comes through Maen bin Isa, from Muawiya, with the same wording. The final addition belongs to Abu Dawud (2861), through the route of Hammad bin Khalid, with the same wording.The basic principle here concerns whether the game has spoiled or not. If he finds it not spoiled, he may eat it, otherwise he should not eat it.
