He said to the Prophet ﷺ, "A man shoots game, then tracks its trail for two or three days, and finally finds it dead with his arrow still in it. May he eat from it?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "He may eat it if he wishes."
أنه قال للنبي ﷺ: يرمي الصيد فيقتفر أثره اليومين والثلاثة، ثم يجده ميتا وفيه سهمه؟ قال: يأكل إن شاء.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Slaughtered Animals and Hunting (5485) as a suspended report, saying, Abdul-Ala said, from Dawud (that is, Ibn Abu Hind), from Amir (that is, Shaybi), from Adi, and he related it.Abu Dawud connected it (2853) from Husayn bin Muaz bin Khalif, who said, Abdul-Ala narrated it to us in the same way, except that he said "fa yaqtafi" instead of "fa yaqtafir," and this is a variant reading in Bukhari, with the same meaning, that is, "he follows."Fath al-Bari (9/611). Its chain of transmission is sahih.
