The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that a horned ram be brought, one that walked in black, knelt in black, and looked through black. It was brought to him to be sacrificed.He said to her, "Ayesha, bring me the knife."Then he said, "Sharpen it on a stone."She did so, and he took it. He took hold of the ram, laid it on its side, and slaughtered it, saying, "In the name of Allah. O Allah, accept this from Muhammad, the family of Muhammad, and the nation of Muhammad."Then he sacrificed it.
أن رسول الله ﷺ أمر بكبش أقرن، يطأ في سواد ويبرك في سواد، وينظر في سواد، فأتي به ليضحي به، فقال لها: يا عائشة هلمي المدية ثم قال: اشحذيها بحجر ففعلت، ثم أخذها، وأخذ الكبش، فأضجعه، ثم ذبحه ثم قال: باسم الله، اللهم تقبل من محمد، وآل محمد، ومن أمة محمد، ثم ضحى به.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Udhiya (19:1967), from Harun bin Maruf, Abdullah bin Wahb narrated to us, he said, Haywa said, Abu Sakhr informed me, from Yazid bin Qusayt, from Urwa bin Zubayr, from Ayesha, and he related it.Some scholars have inferred from his saying ﷺ, "from the nation of Muhammad," that offering udhiya on behalf of the dead is permissible, since this includes both the living and the dead among them. But a specification came with the phrase "whoever among my nation has not offered a sacrifice," as in the hadith of Abu Saeed Khudri and Jabir bin Abdullah that follow.
