The Prophet ﷺ distributed sacrificial animals among his companions, and a young goat fell to Uqba's share.Uqba said, "Messenger of Allah, I received a young goat."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Sacrifice it."In another narration, a young male goat was left over, and when Uqba mentioned it, the Prophet ﷺ said, "You sacrifice it."
قسم النبي ﷺ بين أصحابه ضحايا، فصارت لعقبة جذعة، فقلت: يا رسول الله صارت جذعة؟ قال: ضح بها. وفي رواية: فبقي عتود فذكره فقال: ضح أنت به.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sacrifices (5547), and Muslim in the Book of Sacrifices (16:1965), via Hisham Dastawai, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Bajah Juhani, from Uqba bin Amir Juhani, and he related it.The other narration in Bukhari, in the Book of Sacrifices (5555), and in Muslim (15:1965), both come via Layth (that is, Ibn Saad), from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Abu Khayr, from Uqba, and he related it.Bayhaqi narrated it in Al-Kubra (9/270) through another route from Layth, similarly, adding, "and I do not grant this permission to anyone after him." Bayhaqi said, "If this addition is preserved, then it was a permission granted specifically to him, just as permission was granted to Abu Burda bin Niyar." As for his statement, "so what remained was a young goat," Nawawi said, "The scholars of language said that the term applies specifically to the offspring of goats, meaning one that has begun grazing and grown strong." Sharh Muslim (13/118), and Fath al-Bari (10/11).
