Nasai (5661) narrated it from Ishaq bin Ibrahim (Ibn Rahawayh), who said, Jareer informed us, from Mughira Dabbi, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Naim, from Ibn Umar, and he related it.Hakim graded it sahih (4/371) and narrated it through the route of Jareer with his chain from Ibn Umar alone, saying, "Sahih according to the standard of the two sheikhs." Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Naim Bajali is among the men of the sahih collections. He was a well-known Kufan successor and was among the trustworthy narrators, as Dhahabi said in Mizan (595/2), where he also said, "Ahmad bin Abu Khaythama said, quoting Ibn Main, 'Ibn Abu Naim is daif.' This is how Ibn Qattan reported it, but no one else corroborated him on this." End of quote. So he does not fall below the rank of "truthful."Abu Dawud indicated, regarding the hadith of Ibn Umar along with others, that the killing occurred at the fourth offense, without doubt.As for what he (Abu Dawud) narrated (4483) from Musa bin Ismail, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, from Humayd bin Yazid, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said something with this meaning (that is, the hadith of Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan), and he said, "I think it was at the fifth offense," he said, "If he drinks it, kill him," this is daif. For Humayd bin Yazid, who is Abu Khattab, was narrated from by no one other than Hammad bin Salama, so he is unknown in status, as stated in Taqrib. Imam Ahmad narrated it (6197) through his route.Ibn Hajar said, "I read in Dhahabi's handwriting, where he says, 'It is not known who he is.'"Ibn Qattan said, "Unknown in status."
