Ibn Hibban narrated it in his Sahih (6190) from Muhammad bin Umar bin Yusuf, who said, Muhammad bin Abdul-Malik bin Zanjuwayh narrated to us, Abu Tuba narrated to us, Muawiya bin Salam narrated to us, from his brother Zayd bin Salam, who said, I heard Abu Salam say, I heard Abu Umama say, then he related the hadith.Ibn Manda narrated it in Tawhid (571) through Abu Hatim Razi, who said, Abu Tuba narrated to us, with his chain of transmission, similarly. He said, "This is a sahih chain of transmission according to the pattern of Muslim and the community, except for Bukhari. It has also been narrated through the hadith of Qasim Abu Abdul-Rahman and others, from Abu Umama, from Abu Dharr, with chains that contain some criticism."Ibn Kathir mentioned it in Bidaya wa Nihaya (1/94) and said, "According to the criterion of Muslim."These and others did not mention the number of prophets in the hadith of Abu Umama.However, Hakim narrated it (2/262) through another route from Uthman bin Saeed Darimi, and Tabarani narrated it in Kabir (8/139) from Ahmad bin Khalid Halabi, both of them from Abu Tuba Rabi bin Nafi Halabi, with a chain of transmission, and they both added in it, "They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, how many were the messengers?' He said, 'Three hundred and fifteen, a great multitude.'" He said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim, though the two of them did not include it."Haythami said in Majma (8/210), after attributing it to Tabarani, "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Ahmad bin Khalid Halabi, who is trustworthy."I say, no one deemed Ahmad bin Khalid Halabi trustworthy except Ibn Hibban (8/53), and it was on this basis that Haythami relied on him.As for Uthman bin Saeed Darimi, he is a well-known imam, but Hakim narrated it from Ibrahim bin Ismail Qari, from him, and this Ibrahim is not mentioned among his well-known students, so the matter requires verification in the books of Darimi, may Allah have mercy on him.Then I came across the hadith in Darimi's book Radd Ali Jahmiya (299), where he narrated it from Rabi bin Nafi (Abu Tuba), with his chain of transmission, and he did not mention in it the number of the messengers as being "three hundred and fifteen."
