Sahla bint Suhayl came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I notice displeasure on Abu Huzaifa's face whenever Salim, his ally, comes in to see me."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then nurse him."She replied, "How can I nurse him when he is a grown man?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said, "I am well aware that he is a grown man."In another narration, "Nurse him, and you will become unlawful for him to marry, and what troubles Abu Huzaifa will go away."She returned later and said, "I have nursed him," and what had been troubling Abu Huzaifa was gone.
جاءت سهلة بنت سهيل النبي ﷺ فقالت: يا رسول الله، إني أرى في وجه أبي حذيفة من دخول سالم- وهو حليفه- فقال النبي ﷺ: أرضعيه قالت: وكيف أرضعه وهو رجل كبير؟ فتبسم رسول الله ﷺ وقال: قد علمت أنه رجل كبير وفي رواية: أرضعيه تحرمي عليه، ويذهب الذي في نفس أبي حذيفة فرجعت فقالت: إني قد أرضعته، فذهب الذي في نفس أبي حذيفة.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on breastfeeding (1453) through the route of Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Abdul-Rahman bin Qasim, from his father, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it as stated. The second narration he related through the route of Abdul-Wahhab Thaqafi, from Ayub, from Ibn Abu Mulayka, from Qasim, from Ayesha. He said, "I stayed for a year, or close to it, not narrating it, and I was afraid of it. Then I met Qasim and said to him, 'You told me a hadith that I have not narrated since.'" He said, "What is it?" So I informed him of it. He said, "Narrate it on my authority, that Ayesha told it to me."As for what Hammad bin Salama narrated, from Abdul-Rahman bin Qasim, from Qasim bin Muhammad, from Sahla herself, this is a mistake. Hammad bin Salama erred in it, and the correct version is that "from Ayesha" was dropped from it, as is found in the narration of Sufyan as recorded by Muslim. The hadith of Hammad bin Salama was narrated by Ahmad (27005) from Yunus bin Muhammad, who said, "Hammad bin Salama narrated to us," and he mentioned it.
