When Hafs bin Mughira divorced his wife Fatimah, she came to the Prophet ﷺ.He said to her husband, "Provide her with a parting gift."He replied, "I have nothing to give her."The Prophet ﷺ said, "A parting gift is required."He said again, "Give her something, even if it is only half a saa of dates."
لما طلق حفص بن المغيرة امرأته فاطمة أتت النبي ﷺ، فقال لزوجها: متعها قال: لا أجد ما أمتعها. قال: فإنه لا بد من المتاع قال: متعها، ولو نصف صاع من تمر.

Bayhaqi (7/257) reported it from Abu Abdullah Hafiz, who said, Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Ishaq informed us, Ali bin Abdul-Samad informed us, Abu Hammam Walid bin Shujaa Sakuni narrated to us, Musab bin Sallam narrated to us, Shubah narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from Jabir, and he related it.Its chain is hasan because of Ali bin Abdul-Samad, who is Abu Hasan Tayalisi, known as Allan Maghmah. He was trustworthy, as Khatib said in his biographical entry (12/28), though Khatib also said, "He transmitted many hadiths but had little sense of honor." The chain also contains Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, concerning whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others, and this is one such case.Bayhaqi also related an interesting story about the judge Shurayh. A man divorced his wife in his presence, and Shurayh said, "Give her a gift." The woman said, "He owes me no gift. Allah only said, "For divorced women is a provision according to what is fair, an obligation upon those who are mindful of Allah" [Baqarah 2:241]," meaning that for divorced women there is a provision according to what is fair, an obligation upon those who do good, "and he is not one of those."
