The wife of Thabit bin Qays came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I find no fault with Thabit bin Qays regarding his character or his religion, but I hate the thought of disbelief after embracing Islam."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Will you return his garden to him?"She replied, "Yes."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Accept the garden and divorce her with a single pronouncement."
أن امرأة ثابت بن قيس أتت النبي ﷺ فقالت: يا رسول الله، ثابت بن قيس ما أعتب عليه في خلق ولا دين، ولكني أكره الكفر في الإسلام، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: أتردين عليه حديقته؟ قالت: نعم. قال رسول الله ﷺ: اقبل الحديقة وطلقها تطليقة.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Divorce (5273) from Azhar bin Jameel, who said, Abdul-Wahhab Thaqafi narrated to us, who said, Khalid narrated to us, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it. In another version (5277) he named her "Jameela." Abdul-Razzaq also reported it (11759) from Mamar, who said, It has reached me that she said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have the beauty you see, while Thabit is an ugly man."In the version of Mutamir bin Sulayman, from Fudayl, from Abu Jareer, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, it is said, The first khula that took place in Islam was that the wife of Thabit bin Qays came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my head and the head of Thabit will never come together. I lifted the side of the tent and saw him approaching among a group of men, and he was the darkest of them in complexion, the shortest of them in stature, and the ugliest of them in face."Ibn Jareer related it in his Tafsir from Muhammad bin Abdul-Ala, from Mutamir, with this same chain.
