We set out with the Prophet ﷺ until we reached a garden called al-Shawt. When we arrived between two walled gardens, he sat down between them and said, "Sit here." Then he went inside. The Jawniyyah woman had been brought and lodged in a house among palm trees, in the house of Umaymah bint Numan bin Sharahbil, accompanied by her nurse who looked after her. When the Prophet ﷺ entered upon her, he said, "Give yourself to me."She replied, "Does a queen give herself to a commoner?"He reached out his hand to place it on her to calm her, and she said, "I seek refuge in Allah from you."He said, "You have sought refuge with One who grants refuge."Then he came out to us and said, "Abu Usayd, give her two garments of coarse linen and return her to her family."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Divorce (5255) from Abu Naeem, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Ghasil told us, from Hamza bin Abu Usayd, from Abu Usayd, and he mentioned it. Bukhari also said (5256), Husayn bin Walid Nisaburi said, from Abdul-Rahman, from Abbas bin Sahl, from his father, and from Abu Usayd, that they both said, the Prophet ﷺ married Umaymah bint Sharahil, and when she was brought in to him, he extended his hand toward her, but she seemed to dislike that. So he ordered Abu Usayd to prepare her provisions and clothe her with two garments of Raqiyy cloth. His word "dayah" is an Arabized term used for a wet nurse or midwife. What is meant here is the one who was with her to see to her affairs. And her saying "lil-sawqah" means "for one of the common folk." She did not know that he was a prophet ﷺ, and when she learned that, she was filled with regret and said, "I have been deceived, and I am the unfortunate one."
