The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The conditions most deserving to be fulfilled are those by which you make intimate relations lawful."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: أحق الشروط أن توفوا بها ما استحللتم به الفروج.
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Conditions (2721) from Abdullah bin Yusuf, who said, Layth narrated to us, who said, Yazid bin Abu Habib narrated to me, from Abu Khayr, from Uqba bin Amir, and he related it. That is, regarding specific dowries. It has also been reported from Amir bin Rabia that a man from Banu Fazara married on the basis of two sandals, and the Prophet ﷺ approved his marriage. Ibn Majah reported it (1888), as did Tirmidhi (1113), Ahmad (15676), and Bayhaqi (7/238-239), all of them from the hadith of Asim bin Ubaydullah, from Abdullah bin Amir bin Rabia, from his father, who related it. Its chain of transmission is daif because of Asim bin Ubaydullah, who is al-Umari al-Madani, daif by agreement of the scholars.Ibn Abu Hatim said in al-Ilal (1/424), "I asked my father about Asim bin Ubaydullah, and he said, 'He is munkar al-hadith. It is said that he has no hadith that can be relied upon.' I said, 'What did they object to in his narrations?' He said, 'He reported from Abdullah bin Amir bin Rabia, from his father, that a man married a woman on the basis of two sandals and the Prophet ﷺ approved it, and this is munkar.'"Despite this, Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih."As for what has been reported from Jabir bin Abdullah, that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever gives a woman as her dowry two handfuls of roasted grain or dates has made her lawful for himself," this is daif. Abu Dawud reported it (2110) from Ishaq bin Jibreel al-Baghdadi, who said, Yazid informed us, who said, Musa bin Muslim bin Rawman informed us, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, and he related it. Daraqutni (3/243) and Bayhaqi (7/238) also reported it, both by way of Yazid, that is, Ibn Harun, with his chain of transmission.Abu Dawud said, "Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi reported it from Salih bin Rawman, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, as a stopped report (mawquf)." Abdul-Haqq said, "No reliance can be placed on whoever connected it as a raised report (musnad)."In Nasb Raya (3/200), it is stated that Dhahabi said in al-Mizan, "This Ishaq bin Jibreel is unknown, and al-Azdi declared him daif. As for Muslim bin Rawman, it is said that his name is Salih, and he is unknown (majhul). He reported from Abu Zubayr, and only Yazid bin Harun reported from him." End of quote. I did not find a biographical entry for Ishaq bin Jibreel in al-Mizan.I say, Ajurri said that Abu Dawud said, "Yazid bin Harun erred when he said, 'Musa bin Rawman.'" I say, the correct name is Salih bin Muslim bin Rawman, as Dhahabi said, for Yunus bin Muhammad reported it and named him Salih bin Muslim bin Rawman, saying, "Abu Zubayr informed me," with his chain of transmission. By this same route it was also reported by Imam Ahmad (14824), Daraqutni, Bayhaqi, and others. This Salih bin Muslim bin Rawman is majhul. The sahih report from Jabir on this subject is the hadith about temporary marriage (mutah), which has been examined in its proper place.
