Ayesha reported,

Ayesha said, "The wives of the Prophet ﷺ sent Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She asked permission to enter while he was lying with me under my cloak, and he gave her permission."She said, "Messenger of Allah, your wives have sent me to you asking you to be fair regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafa." I remained silent.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "My dear daughter, do you not love what I love?"She replied, "Yes, of course."He said, "Then love this one."When Fatimah heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she got up and went back to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ and informed them of what she had said and what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said to her.They said to her, "We do not see that you have helped us in any way. Go back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and tell him that his wives implore him to be fair regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafa."Fatimah said, "By Allah, I will never speak to him about her again."Ayesha continued, "So the wives of the Prophet ﷺ sent Zaynab bint Jahsh, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ. She was the one who used to vie with me in standing among them with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I never saw a woman better in religion than Zaynab, more conscious of Allah, more truthful in speech, more devoted in maintaining family ties, more generous in charity, and more dedicated in giving herself to the work by which she sought closeness to Allah Almighty, except for a sharpness of temper she had, from which she would quickly recover.She asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with Ayesha under her cloak, in the same state in which Fatimah had entered upon him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave her permission."She said, "Messenger of Allah, your wives have sent me to you asking you to be fair regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafa."Ayesha said, "Then she launched into me and went on at length against me, while I kept watching the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, watching his eyes to see whether he would permit me to respond. Zaynab did not stop until I realized that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not mind if I defended myself. So when I turned on her, I did not let her go once I had the upper hand over her."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said, "She is indeed the daughter of Abu Bakr."

عن عائشة زوج النبي ﷺ

قالت: أرسل أزواج النبي ﷺ فاطمة، بنت رسول الله ﷺ إلى رسول الله ﷺ. فاستأذنت عليه وهو مضطجع معي في مرطي. فأذن لها. فقالت: يا رسول الله! إن أزواجك أرسلنني إليك يسألنك العدل في ابنة أبي قحافة، وأنا ساكتة قالت فقال لها رسول الله ﷺ: أي بنية ألست تحبين ما أحب؟ فقالت: بلى، قال: فأحبي هذه قالت: فقامت فاطمة حين سمعت ذلك من رسول الله ﷺ. فرجعت إلى أزواج النبي ﷺ فأخبرتهن بالذي قالت. وبالذي قال لها رسول الله ﷺ. فقلن لها: ما نراك أغنيت عنا من شيء. فارجعي إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقولي له: إن أزواجك ينشدنك العدل في ابنة أبي قحافة. فقالت فاطمة: والله! لا أكلمه فيها أبدا. قالت عائشة: فأرسل أزواج النبي ﷺ زينب بنت جحش، زوج النبي ﷺ وهي التي كانت تساميني منهن في المنزلة عند رسول الله ﷺ. ولم أر امرأة قط خيرا في الدين من زينب. وأتقى الله. وأصدق حديثا. وأوصل للرحم. وأعظم صدقة. وأشد ابتذالا لنفسها في العمل الذي تصدق به، وتقرب به إلى الله تعالى. ما عدا سورة من حدة كانت فيها تسرع منها الفيئة. قالت: فاستأذنت على رسول الله ﷺ و رسول الله ﷺ مع عائشة في مرطها. على الحالة التي دخلت فاطمة عليها وهو بها. فأذن لها رسول الله ﷺ فقالت: يا رسول الله! إن أزواجك أرسلنني إليك يسألنك العدل في ابنة أبي قحافة. قالت ثم وقعت بي. فاستطالت علي. وأنا أرقب رسول الله ﷺ، وأرقب طرفه، هل يأذن لي فيها قالت فلم تبرح زينب حتى عرفت أن رسول الله ﷺ لا يكره أن أنتصر. قالت: فلما وقعت بها لم أنشبها حين أنحيت عليها قالت: فقال رسول الله ﷺ وتبسم إنها ابنة أبي بكر.
