Abu Hurairah reported,

The Prophet ﷺ finished the dawn prayer one day, then came to the women in the masjid and stood before them, saying, "Women, I have never seen any with such deficient intellect and religion who so drain away the hearts of sensible men as you. Indeed, I have seen you making up the majority of the people of the Fire on the Day of Resurrection, so draw near to Allah as much as you can."Among the women was the wife of Abdullah bin Masud. She went to Abdullah bin Masud and told him what she had heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and she took some jewelry of hers.Ibn Masud asked, "Where are you going with this jewelry?"She replied, "I am giving it away to draw near to Allah عز وجل and His Messenger, hoping that Allah will not count me among the people of the Fire."He said, "Woe to you, bring it here and give it in charity to me and to my children, for we are a fitting place for it."She said, "No, by Allah, not until I take it to the Prophet ﷺ."So she went and sought permission to see the Prophet ﷺ. The people said to the Prophet ﷺ, "This is Zaynab seeking permission, Messenger of Allah."He asked, "Which of the Zaynabs is she?"They answered, "The wife of Abdullah bin Masud."He said, "Let her in."So she came in to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I heard something you said, so I went back to Ibn Masud and told him about it, and I took some jewelry to give away to draw near to Allah and to you, hoping that Allah would not count me among the people of the Fire. But Ibn Masud said to me, 'Give it in charity to me and to my children, for we are a fitting place for it.' I said, 'Not until I ask the Prophet's permission.'"The Prophet ﷺ said, "Give it in charity to him and to his sons, for they are a fitting place for it."Then she said, "Messenger of Allah, tell me about what I heard from you when you stood before us, 'I have never seen any with such deficient intellect and religion who so drain away the hearts of sensible men as you.' Messenger of Allah, what is this deficiency in our religion and our intellect?"He said, "As for what I mentioned about the deficiency in your religion, it is the menstruation that comes upon you. One of you remains as long as Allah wills, neither praying nor fasting, and that is the deficiency in your religion. As for what I mentioned about the deficiency in your intellect, it is your testimony, for a woman's testimony is only half a testimony."
