A paternal aunt of his came to the Prophet ﷺ with a need, and once she had finished with her matter, the Prophet ﷺ asked her, "Do you have a husband?"She replied, "Yes."He asked, "How are you with him?"She said, "I do not fall short with him except in what I am unable to do."He said, "Then consider carefully where you stand with him, for he is your paradise and your hellfire."
أن عمة له أتت النبي ﷺ في حاجة، ففرغت من حاجتها. فقال لها النبي ﷺ أذات زوج أنت؟ قالت: نعم. قال: كيف أنت له؟ قالت: ما آلوه إلا ما عجزت عنه. قال: فانظري أين أنت منه، فإنما هو جنتك ونارك.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (19003), as did Tabarani in al-Kabir (183/25) and al-Awsat (532), and Hakim (189/2), and from him Bayhaqi (291/7), and Nasai in al-Kubra (8963), all of them through the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed al-Ansari, from Bashir bin Yasar, from Husayn bin Mihsan, and he related it.Hakim said, "Sahih." I say, it is as he said, and Munziri deemed its chain sound in Targhib wal-Tarhib.Husayn bin Mihsan al-Ansari al-Madani, there is disagreement about whether he was a companion. The view held by most scholars is that he was indeed a companion. Among them is Ibn Sakan, who said, "He is said to have been a companion, except that his narration comes from his aunt, and he has no narration directly from the Prophet ﷺ."Abu Musa al-Madini mentioned him in Dhayl Sahabah, and he related from Abdan and Ibn Shahin that both of them listed him among the companions. Ibn Shahin identified his lineage as al-Ashhali. Ibn Fathun also listed him among the companions and traced his lineage as Ibn Mihsan bin Amir bin Abu Qays bin Aslat.As for Ibn Hibban, he listed him among the successors.
