My mother came to visit me while she was still a polytheist, during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I sought a ruling from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying, "She has come hoping for my kindness. Shall I maintain ties with my mother?"He replied, "Yes, maintain ties with your mother."
قدمت على أمي، وهي مشركة في عهد رسول الله ﷺ: فاستفتيت رسول الله ﷺ، قلت: وهي راغبة، أفأصل أمي؟ قال: نعم صلي أمك.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Gifts (2620), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1003), both from the hadith of Abu Usama, from Hisham, from his father, from Asma bint Abu Bakr, who related it.
