Umar bin Khattab saw a striped silk garment for sale at the door of the mosque. He said, "Messenger of Allah, why don't you buy this and wear it on Fridays and when delegations come to visit you?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Only someone who has no share in the Hereafter wears such a garment."Later, similar garments were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave one of them to Umar bin Khattab. Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, you have given this to me to wear, yet you said what you said about the garment of Utarid?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ answered, "I did not give it to you so that you would wear it."So Umar bin Khattab gave it to a polytheist brother of his in Mecca.
Malik narrated it from Nafi, from Abdullah bin Umar, and mentioned it. Through his route, Bukhari narrated it in the Chapter on Friday (886), and Muslim in the Chapter on Clothing (2068).
