My father gave me a gift, then brought me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to have him witness it.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Have you given the same to all your children?"He replied, "No."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you not wish kindness from them just as you wish it from this one?"He answered, "Of course."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Then I will not bear witness to it."
نحلني أبي نحلا، ثم أتى بي إلى رسول الله ﷺ ليشهده، فقال: أكل ولدك أعطيته هذا؟ قال: لا قال: أليس تريد منهم البر مثل ما تريد من ذا؟ قال بلى. قال: فإني لا أشهد.
Muslim reported it in the Book of Gifts (18:1623), from Ahmad bin Uthman Nawfali, who said, "Azhar narrated to us, Ibn Awn narrated to us, from Shaybi, from Numan bin Bashir," and he related it.Ibn Awn said, "I related it to Muhammad, and he said, 'What we were told is that he said, "Treat your children equally."'"
