While he was on the pulpit, he said, "My father gave me a gift, and my mother Amra bint Rawaha said, 'I will not be satisfied until you have the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a witness.' So my father went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'I have given my son by Amra bint Rawaha a gift, and she instructed me to ask you to witness it, Messenger of Allah.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, 'Have you given the rest of your children the same?'He replied, 'No.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Fear Allah and treat your children equally.'"He said, "So my father returned and took back his gift."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Gifts (2587), and Muslim in the Book of Gifts (1623:13), both from the hadith of Husayn, from Amir Shaybi, who said, "I heard Numan bin Bashir," and he related it.
