My mother asked my father to grant me a gift from his wealth. He thought it over, then decided to give it to me. She said, "I will not be satisfied until you have the Prophet ﷺ witness it." So he took me by the hand, while I was still a boy, and brought me to the Prophet ﷺ.He said, "His mother, the daughter of Rawahah, asked me to grant this son of mine a certain gift."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you have other children besides him?"He replied, "Yes."He said, as I think he reported, "Do not call me to witness an act of injustice."
سألت أمي أبي بعض الموهبة لي من ماله، ثم بدا له، فوهبها لي، فقالت: لا أرضى حتى تشهد النبي ﷺ، فأخذ بيدي، وأنا غلام، فأتى بي النبي ﷺ، فقال: إن أمه بنت رواحة سألتني بعض الموهبة لهذا قال: ألك ولد سواه. قال: نعم. قال فأراه قال: لا تشهدني على جور.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Testimonies (2650), and Muslim in the Book of Gifts (14:1623), both from the hadith of Abu Hayan Taymi, from Shaybi, from Numan bin Bashir, and he mentioned it, the wording given here being Bukhari's. Muslim's wording is, "Have you given a gift like this to all of them?" He said, "No." He said, "Then do not have me witness it, for I do not testify to injustice."Bukhari said, Jareer said, on the authority of Shaybi, "I do not testify to injustice."I say, Jareer's hadith was related by Muslim, but through Aasim Ahwal, from Shaybi.
