The Prophet ﷺ said, "Its grass is not to be cut, its game is not to be disturbed, and its lost property is not to be picked up except by one who announces it publicly."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: لا يختلى خلاها، ولا ينفر صيدها، ولا تلتقط لقطتها إلا لمن أشاد بها.
Abu Dawud (2035) narrated it from Ibn Muthanna, who said, Abdul-Samad told us, Hammam told us, Qatada told us, from Abu Hassan, from Ali, regarding this account (meaning the sanctification of Madinah), he said, and he mentioned it. Abu Hassan is al-Ajrad al-Basri, known by his kunya, whose actual name was Muslim bin Abdullah, and his narration from Ali is mursal. However, Imam Ahmad (959) narrated it from Bahz bin Assad, who said, Hammam told us, Qatada informed us, from Abu Hassan, that Ali used to give an order and it would be carried out, then it would be said to him, "We have done such and such," and he would say, "Allah and His Messenger spoke truly." He said, then Ashtar said to him, "This thing you are saying has become widespread among the people. Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrust anything to you specifically?" Ali said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrusted nothing to me specifically apart from the people, except for something I heard from him, and it is in a document in the sheath of my sword." He said, then they kept pressing him until he brought out the document. He said, in it was written, "Whoever introduces an innovation, or shelters an innovator, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, no repentance or ransom will be accepted from him." He said, and in it was also written, "Ibrahim sanctified Makkah, and I sanctify Madinah, everything between its two lava tracts and its protected zone is sacred, its plants must not be cut, its game must not be startled, its lost property must not be picked up except by one who will announce it publicly, no tree in it is to be cut down except when a man needs to feed his camel, and weapons must not be carried in it for fighting." He said, and in it was also written, "The blood of the believers is equal in value, the lowest of them may grant protection on behalf of all of them, and they are a single hand against whoever opposes them. No believer is to be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever, nor is anyone under a covenant to be killed while his covenant stands."From this chain of transmission, the intermediary between Abu Hassan and Ali bin Abu Talib becomes known, and it is Ashtar. Ashtar is Malik bin Harith bin Abdu Yaghuth al-Nakhai, one of the companions of Ali bin Abu Talib. Ali appointed him governor of Egypt, but he died before entering it, in the year 37 AH.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abu Hassan al-Ajrad, for he is hasan al-hadith, and Ibn Hajar also graded it hasan in Fath al-Bari (12/261).His statement "tafashagha" means it spread and became widespread.
