The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the sale of surplus water.
نهي رسول الله ﷺ عن بيع فضل الماء.
Recorded by Abu Dawud (3478), Tirmidhi (1271), Nasai (4662), Ibn Majah (2471), and Darimi (2654), and Ibn Hibban (4952) and Hakim (2/61) and Ibn Jarud (594) graded it sahih, all of them from the hadith of Amr bin Dinar, from Abu Minhal, who said, I heard Iyas bin Abd Muzani, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih."Some added to it, saying, Amr bin Dinar said, We do not know which water he meant. He means, I do not know whether it was flowing water or drawn water. I say, the qualification "surplus water" removes this difficulty. Abu Minhal is Abdul-Rahman bin Mutim Banani.
