I was with Ibn Umar when a man came to him and said, "Abu Abdul-Rahman, I buy these orchards which contain grapevines, but we cannot sell all of it as grapes until we press it."Ibn Umar replied, "Are you asking me about the price of wine? I will narrate to you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when he raised his head toward the sky, then lowered it and began scratching at the ground with his finger, and said, "Woe to the Children of Israil."Umar said to him, "Prophet of Allah, your words about the Children of Israil have alarmed us."He said, "There is no harm upon you from that. When fats were forbidden to them, they conspired together, sold the fat, and consumed its price. Likewise, the price of wine is forbidden to you."
Ahmad (5982) narrated it from Abdul-Samad, who said, my father told me, Abdul-Aziz bin Suhayb told us, from Abdul-Wahid Banani, who said, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Abdul-Wahid Banani. A number of narrators transmitted from him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy successors. He is among the narrators of Taajil.Busiri said in Ithaf Khayra, "Its narrators are trustworthy."
