I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sitting beside the corner of the Kaaba. He raised his gaze toward the sky and laughed, then said, "May Allah curse the Jews," three times. "Allah forbade them from eating fat, so they sold it and consumed its price. When Allah forbids a people from eating something, He forbids them its price as well."
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ جالسا عند الركن، قال: فرفع بصره إلى السماء، فضحك، فقال: لعن الله اليهود ثلاثا، إن الله حرم عليهم الشحوم، فباعوها، وأكلوا أثمانها، وإن الله إذا حرم على قوم أكل شيء حرم عليهم ثمنه.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (3488), Ahmad (2221), Ibn Hibban (4938), and Bayhaqi (13/6), all through Khalid Haddan, from Baraka Abu Walid, who said, Ibn Abbas informed us, and he mentioned it.As for the statement, "When Allah forbids a people to eat something, He also forbids them its price," this general statement is set aside by the scholars' unanimous agreement on the permissibility of selling a human being, a donkey, and similar things, and people have always bought and sold manure for farming in every age.
