The Messenger of Allah ﷺ died while his armor was pawned with a Jew for thirty measures of barley, which he had taken as provision for his family.
أن رسول الله ﷺ مات ودرعه رهن عند يهودي بثلاثين صاعا من شعير، أخذها رزقا لعياله.
Narrated by Tirmidhi (1214), Nasai (4651), Ahmad (2109, 3409), and Bayhaqi (6/36), all of them from the hadith of Hisham bin Hassan, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it, except that Tirmidhi said, "twenty saa", and said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith."It was also narrated by Ibn Majah (2439) and Ahmad (2724), both of them from the hadith of Hilal bin Khabab, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who mentioned the same. Ahmad added at the beginning of the hadith that the Prophet ﷺ turned toward Uhud and said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it would not please me that Uhud should turn into gold for the family of Muhammad which I would spend in the way of Allah, and that I should die on the day I die leaving of it even two dinars, except two dinars which I set aside for a debt, if there be one." Then he died, and he left neither a dinar nor a dirham, nor a male slave nor a female slave, and he left his coat of mail pledged with a Jew. Then he mentioned the same as before.
