When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah, he allotted houses and properties to people, and Ibn Masud was among those to whom he gave an allotment. His companions said to him, "Messenger of Allah, move him away from us."He replied, "Then why did Allah send me? Allah does not sanctify a nation in which the weak among them are not given their due."

Tabarani related it in Al-Kabir (10/274) from Abu Khalifa Fadl bin Hubab, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Sallam Jumahi told us, Sufyan bin Uyayna told us, from Amr bin Dinar, from Yahya bin Jadah, from Hubayra bin Yarim, from Ibn Masud, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Hubayra bin Yarim, for he is hasan al-hadith. Yarim follows the pattern of "azeem." Haythami said in Majma (4/197), Its narrators are trustworthy. Ibn Hajar said in Talkhis (3/63), Its chain is strong.Bayhaqi related it (6/145) through the route of Shafii, who said, Ibn Uyayna informed us, from Amr bin Dinar, from Yahya bin Jadah, who said, When the Prophet ﷺ came to Madinah, he began allotting houses to the people, so a clan from Banu Zahra, known as Banu Abd bin Zahra, said to him, "Turn aside from us for Ibn Umm Abd." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and he related the hadith. He related it in this manner as a mursal narration.Ibn Hajar said, "It cannot be said that perhaps Yahya heard it from Ibn Masud, for he never met him. Yes, but Tabarani connected it in Al-Kabir through the route of Abdul-Rahman bin Sallam." He then related it and affirmed the strength of its chain. His words, "Turn him aside from us," mean, "Move him away from us." It is said, "He turned aside from the road," when he veered away from it, and, "He turned another aside."
