The Prophet ﷺ granted Bilal bin Harith al-Muzani the mines of Qabaliyyah, both their highlands and lowlands, along with the cultivable land of Quds.
أعطى النبي ﷺ بلال بن الحارث المزني المعادن القبلية جلسيها وغوريها، وحيث يصلح الزرع من قدس.
Ibn Zanjawayh narrated it in Kitab al-Amwal (1265) from Hammad, he said, Ibn Abu Uways told us, my father told me, from Thawr bin Yazid Dili, and from his maternal uncle Musa bin Maysara, from Ikrima, the freedman of Abdullah bin Abbas, from Abdullah bin Abbas, and he related it. Abu Dawud (3062), Ahmad (2786), and Bayhaqi (6/145) all narrated it through another route, from Husayn bin Muhammad, who said, Abu Uways told us with his chain, except that they did not present the wording of the hadith, but instead referred to the wording of Amr bin Awf Muzani. Its chain is hasan due to the discussion surrounding Abu Uways, whose name is Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Uways, about whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is hasan, except that he alone narrated this hadith from Thawr bin Zayd. The hadith of Ibn Abbas is corroborated by what was narrated from Amr bin Awf Muzani, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted Bilal bin Harith Muzani the mineral deposits of Qabaliyya, both its highlands and lowlands, and others said, its highlands and lowlands and wherever is suitable for cultivation from Qudus, and he did not give him the right of a Muslim, and the Prophet wrote for him, "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has given to Bilal bin Harith Muzani. He has given him the mineral deposits of Qabaliyya, its highlands and lowlands, and wherever cultivation is suitable from Qudus, and he did not give him the right of a Muslim."This was reported by Abu Dawud (3062-3063), Ahmad (2785), and Bayhaqi (6/145), all from the hadith of Muhammad bin Husayn Marwazi, who said, Abu Uways told us, Kathir bin Abdullah bin Amr bin Awf Muzani told us, from his father, from his grandfather, and he related it. Abu Uways, whose name is Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Uways, is disputed, though his hadith is hasan, as mentioned before. But the flaw here is his teacher Kathir bin Abdullah, for he is daif by the agreement of the scholars, except that Bukhari held a good opinion of him. That is why Tirmidhi used to grade his hadith as sahih in his Sunan, and he was a subject of criticism among the hadith scholars. There is another corroborating narration, which is what Harith bin Bilal bin Harith Muzani narrated from his father, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted him the whole of Aqiq. He said, then when it was the time of Umar, he said to Bilal, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not grant it to you so that you might withhold it from the people, rather he granted it to you so that you might cultivate it, so take from it what you are able to develop, and return the rest."This was narrated by Ibn Zanjawayh in al-Amwal (1069), and Hakim (1/404), and from him Bayhaqi (4/152), all from the hadith of Naeem bin Hammad, who said, Abdul-Aziz bin Muhammad (Darawardi) told us, from Rabia bin Abu Abdul-Rahman, from Harith bin Bilal bin Harith, from his father, and he related it.Hakim said, "Bukhari relied on Naeem bin Hammad as evidence, and Muslim relied on Darawardi, and this is a hadith that is sahih, though the two of them did not include it." However, it contains Harith bin Bilal, whom no one has confirmed as reliable, not even Ibn Hibban, even though he falls within his criteria. In al-Mizan (1/432) it says, from his father, regarding the annulment of Hajj specifically for them, he narrated from Rabia al-Ray alone, and from him Darawardi narrated. Ahmad said, "I do not hold this view, and its chain is not well established."I say, Malik narrated it in Muwatta (1/248) from Rabia bin Abu Abdul-Rahman, from more than one of their scholars, that the Prophet ﷺ granted Bilal bin Harith the mineral deposits of Qabaliyya, which is in the direction of Fara, and that from those mineral deposits nothing is taken except zakat, to this day.Shafii said, "This is not something that the hadith scholars establish as authenticated, and even if they had established it, there would be nothing in it reported from the Prophet except his granting it, for as for zakat on mineral deposits rather than the fifth, that is not reported from the Prophet in this matter."Bayhaqi (4/152), after quoting Shafii's statement, said, "It is as Shafii said regarding Malik's narration, though it has been narrated from Abdul-Aziz Darawardi, from Rabia, with a connected chain," and then he mentioned the connected version, as previously stated. The conclusion regarding this is that the Prophet's ﷺ granting of land to Bilal bin Harith is sahih and well established through its multiple routes, and I have sufficed with mentioning some of them, though it is not established that zakat was taken from mineral deposits. As for his statement, "the mineral deposits of Qabaliyya in the direction of Fara," Fara is with a fatha on the fa, near Suwayqa in the territory of Juhayna. As for his statement, "its jalsi," he means its highland, and jals is what Najd is called. Asmai said, "Every elevated place is jals."As for "ghawr," it is what is low-lying land, meaning that he granted him both its lowlands and its highlands. As for his statement "Qudus," with a damma on the qaf and a sakin on the dal, it is a known mountain. It has also been said that it is the elevated place suitable for cultivation.
