Amr reported,
I said to Tawus, "If only you would abandon mukhabarah, for they claim that the Prophet ﷺ forbade it."He replied, "Amr, I give them their share and enrich them, and the most knowledgeable among them, meaning Ibn Abbas 
, informed me that the Prophet ﷺ did not forbid it, but rather said, 'For one of you to grant his brother the use of his land is better for him than taking a fixed rent for it.'"

قلت لطاوس: لو تركت المخابرة فإنهم يزعمون أن النبي ﷺ نهى عنه، قال: اي عمرو، اني اعطيهم واغنيهم وان اعلمهم اخبرني يعني ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما، ان النبي ﷺ لم ينه عنه، ولكن قال: ان يمنح احدكم اخاه خير له من ان ياخذ عليه خرجا معلوما.
Bukhari narrated it in "Cultivation and Sharecropping" (2330), and Muslim in "Sales" (1550:121), both through the route of Sufyan, from Amr, and Muslim added, "and Ibn Tawus," from Tawus, in this wording, and the wording given is Muslim's. In another version by Bukhari (2634), from Ayub, from Amr, the Prophet ﷺ went out to land with crops swaying, and he said, "Whose is this?" They said, "So-and-so leased it." He said, "Had he given it to him as a gift, that would have been better for him than taking a fixed rent for it."
