I went with Ibn Umar to Rafi bin Khadij until he came to him at al-Balat, and he informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the leasing of farmland.
ذهبت مع ابن عمر إلى رافع بن خديج حتى أتاه بالبلاط، فأخبره أن رسول الله ﷺ نهي عن كراء المزارع.
Muslim (1546:110) narrated it from Ibn Numayr, who said, my father narrated to us, Ubaydullah narrated to us, from Nafi, who said, and he mentioned it.Ahmad (15818) narrated it from Yahya bin Saeed and Ibn Numayr, both of them from Ubaydullah, who said, Nafi told me, saying, Ibn Umar used to lease out farmland, then it reached him that Rafi related a hadith about it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So Ibn Umar went out to him at Balat and asked him, and he informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden leasing out farmland. So Abdullah gave up leasing it.Balat is a well known place in Madinah, paved with stones, and it is near the masjid of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
