The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your example and that of the Jews and Christians is like a man who hired workers. He said, 'Who will work for me until midday for one qirat each?' So the Jews worked for one qirat each. Then the Christians worked for one qirat each. Then you are the ones who work from the afternoon prayer until sunset for two qirats each. The Jews and Christians became angry and said, 'We did more work and received less payment.' He said, 'Have I wronged you of any of your due?' They said, 'No.' He said, 'That is my bounty which I bestow upon whomever I wish.'"
- أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إنما مثلكم واليهود والنصارى كرجل استعمل عمالا، فقال: من يعمل لي إلى نصف النهار على قيراط قيراط؟ فعملت اليهود على قيراط قيراط، ثم عملت النصارى على قيراط قيراط، ثم أنتم الذين تعملون من صلاة العصر إلى مغارب الشمس على قيراطين قيراطين، فغضبت اليهود والنصارى، وقالوا: نحن أكثر عملا وأقل عطاء. قال: هل ظلمتكم من حقكم شيئا؟ قالوا: لا. فقال: فذلك فضلي أوتيه من أشاء.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Hiring (2269) from Ismail bin Abu Uways, who said, Malik narrated to me, from Abdullah bin Dinar, the freed slave of Abdullah bin Umar, from Abdullah bin Umar bin Khattab, and he mentioned it.
