A man said, "Messenger of Allah, I have wealth and children, and my father wants to take all my wealth."He replied, "You and your wealth belong to your father."
أن رجلا قال: يا رسول الله، إن لي مالا وولدا، وإن أبي يريد أن يجتاح مالي، فقال: أنت ومالك لأبيك.
Ibn Majah related it (2291) from Hisham bin Ammar, who said, Isa bin Yunus told us, who said, Yusuf bin Ishaq told us, from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Jabir, and he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Ibn Majah's shaykh, for his hadith is hasan, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy. As for his saying, "You and your wealth belong to your father," this means that if the father needs your wealth, he may take from you the amount he needs. It does not mean that he has the right to consume all of your wealth, whether rightfully or wrongfully, for none of the jurists have ever said this.Bayhaqi said (7/481), "Whoever claims that a child's wealth belongs to his father argues from the apparent meaning of this hadith. And whoever claims that the father is only entitled to as much of his son's wealth as suffices him when he needs it, and that once he no longer needs it the father has no claim to any of his son's wealth, argues from the reports that came regarding the prohibition of taking another's wealth, and from the fact that if the son died leaving a son of his own, the father would only be entitled to a sixth of his wealth, whereas if the father truly owned his son's wealth, he would take all of it."
