Abdullah bin Umar reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed tamattu during the Farewell Pilgrimage by combining umrah with hajj. He brought a sacrificial animal, driving it along with him from Dhul-Hulayfa. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began by entering ihram for umrah, then entered ihram for hajj. The people performed tamattu along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, combining umrah with hajj. Some of them brought sacrificial animals and drove them along, while others did not. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Mecca, he said to the people, "Whoever among you has brought a sacrificial animal may not release himself from any of the restrictions of ihram until he has completed his hajj. Whoever among you has not brought a sacrificial animal should circumambulate the House, walk between Safa and Marwa, shorten his hair, and exit ihram. Then he should enter ihram for hajj and offer a sacrifice. Whoever cannot find a sacrificial animal should fast three days during the hajj and seven days when he returns to his family."

Sahih
