I went out for Hajj and entered the House. When I reached the area between the two pillars, I went forward until I pressed myself against the wall. Then Ibn Umar came and stood beside me, and he prayed four rakahs. When he had finished, I asked him, "Where in the House did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray?"He replied, "Right here. Usama bin Zayd informed me that he prayed in this spot."I asked, "How many rakahs did he pray?"He said, "Concerning this, I find myself blaming myself, for I spent a long time with him and did not ask him how many he prayed."The following year, he said, I went out for Hajj again, and I came to the same spot where he had stood. Then Ibn Zubayr came and stood beside me, and he kept crowding me until he pushed me out of the place. Then he prayed four rakahs there.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (21780), as did Bazzar in Musnad Zakhkhar (2562) and Tabarani in Kabir (128/1), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (3205). All of them narrated it from the hadith of Abu Muawiya, who said, Amash narrated to us, from Umara, from Abu Shatha, and he mentioned it. The wording given is that of Ahmad, while others mentioned it in abridged form. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Umara is Ibn Umayr Taymi, the Kufan, one of the men whose narrations are accepted by all. Abu Shatha's name is Sulaym bin Aswad bin Hanzala Muharibi, the Kufan, also one of the men whose narrations are accepted by all.Ibn Hibban said, "Ibn Umar heard this report from Bilal and from Usama bin Zayd, since the two of them were with the Prophetﷺ inside the Kaaba. So at one time he related the report on the authority of Bilal, and at another time on the authority of Usama bin Zayd. Both routes are equally well preserved."
