Abu Dawud (1956) and Nasai in Kubra (4094) both narrated it, through the route of Marwan (who is Ibn Muawiya Fazari), from Hilal bin Amir Muzani, who said, Rafi bin Amr Muzani narrated to me, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih.Abu Muawiya, who is Muhammad bin Khazim Dareer, erred, making the hadith part of the musnad of Amir bin Amr Muzani, the father of Hilal bin Amir Muzani. Imam Ahmad (15920) and Abu Dawud (4073) narrated it by this same route.Bukhari noted this in Tarikh al-Kabir (3/302), where he first narrated the hadith of Rafi bin Amr, then mentioned the narration of Abu Muawiya, and said, "The first is more sahih."I say, but Abu Muawiya was not alone in narrating it, for Imam Ahmad (15921) narrated from Muhammad bin Ubayd, who said, an elder from Banu Fazara narrated to us, from Hilal bin Amir Muzani, from his father, who said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressing the people upon a grey mule, while Ali conveyed his words." Its chain is daif because of the unidentified elder, who is not named.His statement, "while Ali conveyed his words," means that he made the people hear what might otherwise escape them due to their distance from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
