The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us upon a red, aged she-camel and said, "Do you know what day this is of yours?"We replied, "The Day of Sacrifice."He said, "You have spoken truly. It is the Day of the Greater Pilgrimage. Do you know what month this is of yours?"We said, "Dhul-Hijjah."He said, "You have spoken truly. It is the sacred month of Allah. Do you know what land this is of yours?"We replied, "The Sacred Site."He said, "You have spoken truly." Then he said, "Indeed, your blood and your property are sacred to one another, just as this day of yours is sacred in this month of yours in this land of yours." Or he said, "as the sanctity of this day of yours, this month of yours, and this land of yours.Listen well, I will go ahead of you to the Pool, awaiting you, and I will boast of your numbers before the other nations, so do not blacken my face. Listen well, you have seen me, you have heard from me, and you will be questioned about me. Whoever lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire.Listen well, I will rescue some men, or some people, while others will be taken away from me. I will say, 'My Lord, my companions!' But it will be said, 'You do not know what they introduced after you.'"
Imam Ahmad narrated it through two routes. The first is from Yahya bin Saeed (23497) in this full form, and the second is from Waki (15886) in abbreviated form. Both are from Shuba, from Amr bin Mura, from Mura Tayyib, who said, "A man from among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ told me," and then he related the hadith. Its chain is sahih. Mura Tayyib is Mura bin Sharahil Hamdani, Abu Ismail Kufi, known as Mura Tayyib, and he is among the narrators accepted by all the major collections.Nasai also narrated it in Kubra (4099), as did Musaddad in his Musnad as mentioned by Busiri in Zawaid bin Majah, and Tahawi in Sharh Mushkil (42), all of them through the route of Shuba with this same chain. The unnamed man from among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ is not known by identity, but this obscurity does not harm the hadith. However, Ibn Majah (3057) narrated it through another route, from Zafir bin Sulayman, from Abu Sinan, from Amr bin Mura, from Mura, from Abdullah bin Masud, who said that the Messenger of Allah, while on his old she-camel at Arafat, said such and such, relating the sermon in abbreviated form. Zafir bin Sulayman, who is Iyadi Qahistani, differed from the others in two respects. First, he made the hadith part of the musnad of Ibn Masud, while others made it from an unnamed companion. Second, he made the sermon belong to the day of Arafah, while others made it belong to the day of sacrifice. This Zafir bin Sulayman is a disputed narrator. Ahmad, Ibn Main, Abu Dawud, and others considered him reliable, while Nasai and others considered him weak. The conclusion regarding him, as Ibn Adi said, is that "his hadiths seem to have their chains and texts reversed, and most of what he narrates is not corroborated by others, though his hadith is recorded despite this weakness."This hadith of his contradicts a narrator more reliable than him, both in chain and in text, so the preserved version is the hadith of a man from among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ concerning the day of sacrifice. Busiri did not notice this hidden flaw in Misbah Zujaja, where he said, "This chain is sahih."
