Abbas asked the Prophet ﷺ for permission to spend the nights of Mina in Makkah in order to attend to his duty of providing water to the pilgrims, and he granted him permission.
أن العباس رضي الله عنه استأذن النبي ﷺ ليبيت بمكة ليالي منى، من أجل سقايته فأذن له.
Bukhari narrated it in the Hajj chapters (1745), and Muslim in the Hajj chapters (1315), both through the route of Abdullah bin Numayr, who said, "Ubaydullah (that is, Ibn Umar Umari) narrated to us, Nafi narrated to me, from Ibn Umar," and he related it.On this subject, there is also what was reported from Ibn Abbas, who said, "The Prophet ﷺ did not permit anyone to spend the night in Makkah except Abbas, because of the water-supplying duty." Ibn Majah narrated it (3066) from Ali bin Muhammad and Hannad bin Sari, who both said, "Abu Muawiya narrated to us, from Ismail bin Muslim, from Ataa, from Ibn Abbas," and he related it. In this chain is Ismail bin Muslim Makki, Abu Ishaq, whom Ibn Main, Abu Zura, Abu Hatim, Nasai, and others declared daif.On this subject, there is also what was reported from Abdul-Rahman bin Faruq, who asked Ibn Umar, saying, "We trade with people's money, and one of us comes to Makkah and spends the night there guarding the money." He replied, "As for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he spent the night at Mina and stayed there during the day." Abu Dawud narrated it (1958) from Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Khallad Bahili, who said, "Yahya narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said, 'Hurayz, or Abu Hurayz, (the uncertainty being from Yahya), narrated to me that he heard Abdul-Rahman bin Faruq,'" and he related it. Hurayz, or Abu Hurayz, is "unknown."
