The Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed from Arafah with Usama riding behind him. He kept holding back his mount so firmly that the area behind its ears nearly touched, and Hammad sometimes said, nearly struck, the front of the saddle. He was saying, "People, maintain calmness and dignity, for righteousness does not lie in driving camels hard."
أن رسول الله ﷺ أفاض من عرفة، ورديفه أسامة فجعل يكبح راحلته حتى إن ذفراها لتكاد أن تمس- وربما قال حماد: أن تصيب- قادمة الرحل. وهو يقول: يا أيها الناس عليكم بالسكينة والوقار، فإن البر ليس في إيضاع الإبل.
Nasai (3018), Ahmad (21756), and Bayhaqi (5/119) all narrated it through various routes from Hammad bin Salama, from Qays bin Saad, from Ataa, from Ibn Abbas, from Usama bin Zayd, who said, then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.
