On the day of Tarwiyah, they set out for Mina and entered the state of ihram for Hajj. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ rode and led them in the Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr prayers. He then waited a little until the sun rose, and ordered that a tent of hair be pitched for him at Namirah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then proceeded, and Quraysh had no doubt that he would stop at al-Mashar al-Haram, as Quraysh used to do in the days of ignorance. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued past it until he came to Arafah, where he found the tent had been pitched for him at Namirah, and there he dismounted.
Muslim reported it in the Book of Hajj (1218) via Hatim bin Ismail Madani, from Jafar bin Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir, and he related it at length concerning the Prophet's ﷺ Hajj. His statement, "Namirah," refers to a place next to Arafat and is not part of Arafat. As for his statement, "until he came to Arafah and found that the tent had been pitched for him at Namirah," this is a loose expression, and what is meant is that he approached Arafat. See Nawawi's commentary on Sahih Muslim (8/180).
