When he set out to Mecca to perform Umrah during the time of civil strife, he said, "If I am prevented from reaching the House, we will do as we did with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So he entered the state of ihram for Umrah, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had entered ihram for Umrah in the year of Hudaybiyah. Then Abdullah reconsidered his situation and said, "The matter of both is one and the same."He then turned to his companions and said, "The matter of both is one and the same. I call you to witness that I have made Hajj obligatory upon myself along with the Umrah."He then proceeded until he came to the House and made a single circumambulation, considering that sufficient for him, and he offered a sacrificial animal.
Malik narrated it in Hajj (99) from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, as mentioned. Bukhari also narrated it in Muhsar (1813), and Muslim in Hajj (1230: 180), both through the route of Malik, in the same manner. Except that in the wording of Bukhari it says, "Then he performed one tawaf for both of them." And in the wording of Muslim it says, "So he went out until, when he came to the House, he circled it seven times, and between Safa and Marwa seven times, not exceeding that, and he considered it sufficient for him... ..."
