I proceeded with the Prophet ﷺ from Arafat, and he continued reciting the talbiyah until he threw the pebbles at Jamrat al-Aqaba, saying takbir with each pebble. He stopped the talbiyah with the last pebble.
أفضت مع النبي ﷺ في عرفات، فلم يزل يلبي حتى رمى جمرة العقبة، يكبر مع كل حصاة، ثم قطع التلبية مع آخرها حصاة.
Ibn Khuzayma (2887) narrated it from Umar bin Hafs Shaybani (in the printed edition it says Muhammad bin Umar, which is an error), who said, Hafs bin Ghiyath narrated to us, who said, Jafar bin Muhammad narrated to us, from his father, from Umar bin Husayn, from Ibn Abbas, from his brother Fadl, and he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Umar bin Hafs Shaybani, the teacher of Ibn Khuzayma, and in Tahdhib it says, "Ibn Khuzayma cited it as evidence in his Sahih," and in Taqrib it says, truthful.Ibn Khuzayma said, "This report makes clear that he stopped the talbiyah with the last pebble, not with the first of them."Al-Hafiz endorsed this in Fath al-Bari (3/533) and said, "What is meant by his saying, 'until he threw at Jamra Uqba,' is that he completed throwing at it."Ibn Hazm narrated this hadith in the book Hujjat al-Wada from the hadith of Abu Zubayr, from Abu Mabad, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas, from Fadl bin Abbas, and its wording is, "He - - continued reciting the talbiyah until he completed throwing at Jamra Uqba," as mentioned by Ibn Turkmani in Jawhar Naqi, who said, its isnad is good. But Bayhaqi considered it unusual (5/137) and said, "His saying the takbir with every pebble" indicates that he stopped the talbiyah with the first pebble, as we have narrated in the hadith of Abdullah bin Masud, and his saying, "He recited the talbiyah until he threw at the pebble," means until he began throwing at the pebble. He said, As for the addition found in the narration of Fadl bin Abbas, it is unusual, Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Khuzayma reported it and preferred it, but it is not found in the well-known narrations from Ibn Abbas, from Fadl bin Abbas. End of quote.I say, What is strange about this matter is that Bayhaqi, after that, narrated the hadith of Abdullah bin Masud, which contains tahlil and takbir, and that is what comes next.
