Abdullah, who is Ibn Masud, called out the talbiyah as he was descending from Jam. Someone asked, "Is this an Arabi doing this?"Abdullah replied, "Have people forgotten, or have they gone astray? I heard the one upon whom Surah al-Baqarah was revealed saying in this very place, 'Labbayk Allahumma labbayk.'"
أن عبد الله (هو ابن مسعود) لبي حين أفاض من جمع، فقيل: أعرابي هذا؟ فقال عبد الله: أنسي الناس أم ضلوا، سمعت الذي أنزلت عليه سورة البقرة يقول في هذا المكان: لبيك اللهم لبيك.
Muslim reported it in the book of Hajj (1283), from Surayj bin Yunus, who said, Hushaym narrated to us, Husayn informed us, from Kathir bin Mudrik Al-Ashjai, from Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid, and he mentioned it.The specific mention of Ibn Masud with Surah Baqarah is because most of the rulings of Hajj are mentioned in it.
