The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Jibreel came to me and said, 'Muhammad, instruct your companions to raise their voices with the talbiyah, for it is among the rites of the Hajj.'"
قال رسول الله ﷺ: جاءني جبريل فقال: يا محمد، مر أصحابك فليرفعوا أصواتهم بالتلبية، فإنها من شعائر الحج.
It was narrated by Ibn Majah (2923), Ibn Khuzayma (2628), Ibn Hibban (3803), and Hakim (1/450), all from the hadith of Sufyan, from Abdullah bin Abu Labid, from Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab, from Khallad bin Saaib, from Zayd bin Khalid Juhani, who mentioned it. Hakim said, "Its isnad is sahih." Its isnad is hasan because of the discussion regarding Muttalib bin Hantab, except that his hadith is hasan. It has also been narrated with similar wording from Abu Hurairah. This was narrated by Ahmad (8314), Ibn Khuzayma (2630), and Hakim (1/450), and from him Bayhaqi (5/42), all from the hadith of Usama bin Zayd, who said, Abdullah bin Abu Labid told me, from Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab, who said, I heard Abu Hurairah, who mentioned it.Usama bin Zayd Laythi erred in this, and he is described as making errors due to weakness in his memory, for he contradicted Sufyan Thawri and Shuba, since both of them made it part of the musnad of Zayd bin Khalid Juhani, which is the correct view, as Ibn Hajar and others have explicitly stated.
