Someone asked, "Zayd bin Arqam, are you aware that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given ostrich eggs as a gift while he was in the state of ihram, and he refused them?"He replied, "Yes."

Ibn Khuzayma (2644) and Hakim (1/452) both narrated it from the hadith of Ishaq bin Isa, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, from Qays, from Tawus, from Abdullah bin Abbas, and he mentioned it. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim." Its isnad is hasan because of Ishaq bin Isa bin Tabba, for although he is among the narrators of Muslim, he does not rise to the level of being "trustworthy."As for what is reported from Abu Hurairah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Regarding ostrich eggs that a person in the state of ihram during Muharram damages, its price is due," this is daif. Ibn Majah (3086) and Daraqutni (2562) both narrated it from the hadith of Husayn Muallim, from Abu Muhazzim, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. Abu Muhazzim is very daif. Something similar has been reported from Kaab bin Ujra, and it is also daif.
